At Breath Training, we believe in empowering individuals and companies to achieve optimal health through effective and science backed breathing techniques. Our mission is to enhance your physical and mental well-being by teaching you how to harness the power of your breath. We teach how breathing is another pillar of health alongside, exercise, balanced diet, sleep and managing our stress levels.
Optimise your respiratory system to maximise gas exchange to increase blood flow and oxygenation of your cells and tissues. Using the principle of the Bohr effect, we can use CO2 to our advantage to help release oxygen from hemoglobin from the red blood cells and into the tissues where it's needed.

Our techniques can help reduce the brains chemo-sensitivity to CO2 meaning reduced breathlessness and more efficient use of oxygen. In our modern lives, stress has now reached epidemic levels and can range from work related stress, exams preparations, parenting to worries about health and finances plus more. The good news is breathing techniques and help mitigate the modern sympathetic 'worry and hurry' pathway and improve the parasympathetic, 'rest and recover' pathway. Breathwork has a direct influence and impact on our autonomic nervous system and help change our state and physiology very quickly.
Heart rate variability is the measure in time between heartbeats and helps reflect the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Just like regular exercise can strengthen and tone your muscles, HRV breath training helps strengthen your ANS, heart, lungs and connects the systems in a balanced way. This leads to increased resilience and capacity to handle stress. This is a measure top athletes and CEO's use monitor performance and to ensure they reach their peak. Through biofeedback devices that we use we can show how breathing can influence your HRV and create a more coherent system
The vagus nerve is the 10th cranial nerve in the body and is a the longest nerve reaching down to the heart, lungs, spleen, liver and other organs. Some 80% of the signals are driven from the body to the brain and then 20% the opposite way. This is crucial as changes in breathing and the bodily signals can inform the brain we are safe and so the brain stimulates to rest and recover programmes. The main neurotransmitter the vagus nerve releases is acetylcholine, which helps slow down the heart rate and vagal tone can be improved using the correct breathing method.
Sleep is a superpower and all studies have shown the impact good and poor quality sleep can have on the body and mind. Some of the usual sleep protocols such as reduced screen time, manage caffeine intake, unwind before bed and keep the room cool can help. We also believe utilising the right breath pattern to help downregulate the nervous system and put the body into a sleep ready state will boost the opportunity to have a good restful night sleep.

I am a qualified Optometrist and have over 20 years experience in the optical industry. Caring for all ages of patients from children to those over 100 yrs has allowed me to see the full breath of the life journey. My first adventure into breathing was learning Sudarshan Kriya as part of the art of living course in London in my 20's. I also completed a training course in cognitive hypnotherapy where a lot of relaxed breathing was taught. Oxygen advantage instructor training was perfect for me.
